Cousins who read together...

One day while watching my adorable nieces, it got quiet all of a sudden. When three preschoolers suddenly get quiet it causes concern. So, as I snuck a peek in Marshall's room to see what was going on, I saw this.....

Marshall Started Preschool

My little boy is off to preschool already! Twice a week he goes to the Child & Family Development Center lab school at the University of Utah. He is fine separating from me when I drop him off but every morning as we head out he gets a little apprehensive. I stay and watch him through the observation booths, unseen, and he looks like he's enjoying himself. I love this preschool, although I am a little biased since it is where I did my practicum last fall. The teachers are great and I love the philosophy of a child-centered, NAEYC accredited program, that allows children to be creative and focus on the process, not a product. I can't wait to see him start little friendships and go to playdates. My sis-in-law just gave me the cutest Mommy business cards for that very purpose! For now I can be a "Pre-school Mom!" (Soccer-mom is coming soon.)

Coen's Milestones

12 months - walks across living room unassisted - 10.10.09
11 months - says "hi" "dadda" "us" for Jesus "bubba" and "Mahr" for Marshall
11 months - points and says "whassa?" translation: "what's that?"
11 months - takes first steps 9.16.09
8 months - claps and waves 6.13.09
7 1/2 months - CRAWLING!!! 5.26.09
7 months - pulls himself up on crib rail to kneeling position around 5.18.09
7 months - pushes up to sitting position by himself around 5.13.09
6 3/4 months - gets up on hands and knees
6 1/2 months - says "mama"
6 months - pushes himself backwards
5 1/2 months - Sits without help
5 months - Rolls from Back to Tummy

John was putting Marshall in time out and Marshall said, "You're just a TOY!" it's a line from Toy Story. - October 10, 2009
I've been nursing Coen for a year now and Marshall asked if he can try some of my milk, quickly followed by "Just kidding!" - October 2009
"I see Panda Bear'es Bress!" as we were driving into the parking lot of Panda Express - October 2009
"Grammy, you must think I'm a pet. You keep rubbing my head." - January 2009
After he accidentally dropped a light saber on Coen's head he cried, "I just can't be a big brother!" - January 2009
"I don't want to get older but Jesus keeps growing me!" - January 2009
Marshall was at my dad's one day and saw a bag of Lemonheads candy. On it there is a picture of a real "lemon head." My dad asked Marshall if he wanted to try one and he said, "Will it turn my head yellow?" - October 2008
It's been raining and Marshall has been swinging his umbrella all over the house. He started crying because it broke. John asked him why he broke his umbrella. "I didn't do it," he replied, "the rain fell too hard!" - October 4, 2008

Heard from the bathroom this morning: "Mom! It's not dropping out!!!" - September 28, 2009
Marshall was telling me about Batman and how he has special weapons come out of his hands. I asked how he does that and Marshall said, "He has the power to read!" - September 27, 2008
Last night as I was tucking him in: Me-"I love being your mommy." Marsh-"I love being your boy." Me-"Awww, thanks sweet boy." Marsh-"Thanks sweety momma." I just love it when he calls me that! - September 23, 2008
Pointing to my shirt on my shoulder where my bra strap is, Marshall said, as if a light had just gone on, "Mommy! This part is connected to your privates!" - August 19, 2008
John called and Marshall answered. John asked him what he was doing and Marshall said "I'm hugging Coen." He'd been cuddling my belly and talking to Coen. Later that day, he said, "Mommy, Coen is going to be sweet, sweet, sweet. I really love Coen. He's not going to be naughty like Maddie and steal my toys cuz she doesn't know the rules about that." - August 19, 2008
Marshall - "Mommy, what are ears for?" We took turns listing things, then "Mommy, what are hands for?" Me - "What do you think they're for?" Marshall - "For covering your ears when it's too noisy." - August 19, 2008
Cuddling in bed Marshall whispered so softly, "Mom, you're getting so big and so brave." I had told him that earlier. - August 4, 2008
M- "So how big is the baby now?" Me- "About this big," showing him with my hands. M- "Mom, do you like your tummy getting bigger and bigger?" - August 4, 2008
We were on the freeway winding through Spanish Fork Canyon when Marshall says, "Mom! That was a stop sign! You're supposed to stop for those! Do you want the police officer to come?" Yeah, that wasn't a stop sign but try telling a 3 year old that. - August 4, 2008
We sat across from a mom with little kids at the pizzaria in Carbondale and Marshall pointed to them and said, "Look Riley! Those are STRANGERS!!!" The mom and I just looked at each other and laughed. -August 2, 2008
After learning the song "Called To Serve" in primary, Marshall asked me what Onward and Forward mean. - July 2008
After I tuck Marshall in at night I sometimes hear, "Mommaaaaaaa, I haffa go PAAAAY-PAY!" aka: peepee - June 2008
Marshall-isms at age 3:
Balava = Volcano/Lava, he can't say his "v" sound so it comes out "b" and he combines the two words
Banilla = Vanilla, his favorite ice cream flavor
Bacheetos = Cheetos, I think it's a mix between Cheetos and Doritos
Uniform = Unicorn, he actually means Rhino, as in the suped up ATV/4 wheeler variety
Old Lady = Old Navy
Jumpoline = Trampoline
Smushmellows = Marshmallows
Shivery = Cold
Grandpa & Grandpa's = Grandpa & GrandMA, John's parents
Grandpa Kirk asked Marshall "Who is John?" M replied "He's the biggest one. And I'm not big like him yet." He meant John's the biggest in our family -June 10, 2008
Tonight I was telling Marshall what each finger's name was. He asked why I didn't have a ring on my right hand ring finger. I told him because I only married Daddy once (for lack of better explanation.) I told him someday he can help Daddy pick out a ring for that hand. He said, "And it can have a pink one of those (pointing to the diamond) because I like pink. When I get married I want a pink one, is that okay?" -June 7, 2008 PS-Should I be worried?
M- "Mom! I'm going to be a Lamanite. They have bows and arrows and swords." Said with much enthusiasm. -June 2, 2008
M- "Who lives with Heavenly Father in heaven?" Me- "People who haven't been born yet." M- Pats my belly, "Mommy, is this where Heaven is?" -June 2, 2008
