While I had what could only be described as one of the most depressing days of my life (even before the following transpired), this is what Marshall was up to:
I stayed in bed until 9:00, about half an hour after John left for work, and woke to hear Marshall dumping the last of his toy bins out across the living room floor so he could make a tractor out of the bins. There was literally no room to walk - time out! I finally got the last of it cleaned up around 11:00 after a bunch of tantrums and not being cooperative (on Marshall's part). Then he had a melt down (several actually) at lunch time because a) I wouldn't let him sit in the high chair b) he didn't want grilled cheese c) he peed a little and needed to get out of the high chair to do the rest in the potty d) I made him wash his hands after e) I wouldn't lift him back up into the high chair after and f) I don't know but I'm sure there was one more, ah, yes, he wouldn't eat the rest of his sandwich after his potty break and I couldn't deal so I shut myself in my room and told him I'd be out when he finished.
While I was crying to myself in my room I heard him grumbling at the table, "I hate you, mommy!" That just broke my heart to hear him say that. Then, because I could tell he was tired and not feeling all that great, we watched a movie. He sat completely still through the whole thing so I knew he wasn't feeling well. Afterward he had another melt down when I told him he couldn't go to Grammy's house today and set up his hospital that he got for his birthday but I took down because I was sick of him breaking it.
He had another melt down when it was snack time and I got him yogurt and cottage cheese. I dared to mix the two together (normally he doesn't care) and he didn't get to do it. Oh, that was after the tantrum he had because he wanted a small yogurt instead of some from the family size version.
At one point he went to use the potty and wanted his pajamas on (the ones he'd been wearing all day with no undies) on backwards, I tried to trick him but he knew it, so there were tears shed over that.
Then I tried to get him to help me clean up the living room (again but not as bad) before John got home from work. He did everything but help clean up so I put him in his room and told him to stay there until John got home while I cried again in my room.
This is where John found us upon his arrival home. Me with puffy eyelids sitting on the edge of my bed in tears that hadn't stopped all day and Marshall in his room pulling every CD from his CD case. He was so sweet and offered to make dinner while I relaxed. During another potty episode, Marshall dumped all the soap out of the dispenser into the sink, ahh! What are we going to do with this kid? After dinner Marshall miraculously helped clean up the living room with us, John must have had the magic touch I hadn't had all day. Thank you for taking over when I needed it most honey!
WARNING: THIS PARAGRAPH CONTAINS DETAILS ABOUT TODDLER POO AND WHAT A MESS IT CAN BE
This all right after a poo fiasco yesterday. So, Marshall is pretty independent on the potty now and uses the big toilet since we've been home from St. George. He went in to use it all on his own yesterday afternoon. I smelled poo so I told him I was coming in to wipe him. He of course didn't like that idea at all and ran down the hall to his room where he sat straddling the arm of the rocking chair with an unwiped bum and smeared, yes smeared, poo all over the arm rest. GROSS!!! So I took him back in the bathroom, cleaned up his bum and stuck him in the bath with a bar of soap and told him to scrub his body while I cleaned up the poo all over the toilet and floor. With him and the bathroom mess contained I went in to assess the bedroom damage. The seat and arm rest of the rocking chair were covered! So luckily they detach and the seat cover comes off the padding and they can be washed, so I stuck those, Marshall's clothes, and my clothes in the washing machine ASAP. Later when I went to get them out they still smelled like poo! So gross, so I turned the washer from "hot" to "temp boost" and threw in some baking soda, which is supposed to get smells out and make things fresh, right? Anyway, between the ultra high temperature, an extra long cycle, and extra rinse to get all the foam from the double amount of detergent I put in, the wash finally smelled fresh. On days like today I wish he was still in diapers. No, I take that back.
Ugh, at least it's the weekend and I can have a little break, or at least another adult around and hopefully regain some of the sanity I just lost.
